Television

Swinnen’s family always had a connection with Radio and Television. Both his grandfather and father worked at the public television and radio station VRT, as did many of his close family members.

In 2007 Swinnen competed in Junior Eurovision as a producer, and this was the first time he was introduced to the power of television, music and image combined - it was not only about the song, it was the whole package that really hit home. Swinnen produced and (co-)wrote music for the Junior Eurosong until the broadcaster VRT stopped competing in 2013.

A whole new level up, in 2010 Swinnen co-wrote and produced the Belgian entry for the biggest television show on the planet: the Eurovision Song Contest. Over 200 million people tuned in to watch and hear “Me & My Guitar” take 6th place in the grand final.

Piece by piece Swinnen’s name became synonymous with all things TV, and in 2014 he began appearing on The Voice Kids as an assistant coach. After six seasons, his team stole the show, winning with the incredible young talent Gala Aliaj.

In 2015 Swinnen started his career as musical director for Liefde Voor Muziek, a live music show on VTM and arguably the most successful tv-music show in Belgium’s history. He built his own “wrecking crew” of fantastic studio-musicians to perform and record 49 songs per season with seven established artists in beautiful exotic locations. The concept of the show was simply ‘covers’ - the seven famous artists created fresh new-versions of each other’s songs, and many new hits were born. Infact the Belgian charts were dominated by all the songs from the show. As musical director it was an epic challenge, but it certainly paid off - over 8 seasons to-date and a very special charity project “Rode Neuzen”, Jeroen and his wrecking crew recorded an insane 400 songs with 55 different artists.

News of the show’s early success brought many other opportunities, and in 2016 Swinnen was appointed as M.D. for “The Band” - a talent show based on the successful format “K3 zoekt K3”. The goal was to form a new boy band. In the same year he also took on the role of assisting Bart Peeters, coaching on The Voice Van Vlaanderen. It was yet another whirlwind three seasons of crazy viewing figures and hits.

It’s been a journey, but one thing’s for sure; Jeroen’s love of music for tv doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon…
